Directions from M6 motorway [travelling from the South]
+ Exit the M6 at Junction 36 signed for Kendal, onto the A590
+ Stay on the A590 [dual carriageway] / A591 for around 10 minutes until you come down a hill towards a large roundabout.
+ Take the second exit at the roundabout [signed for Windermere]
+ Follow this road [A591] to Windermere and keep going until you get to a small roundabout.
+ Go straight across the roundabout [2nd exit] signed for Ambleside
+ Follow this road [still A591] until you reach a set of traffic lights on entering Ambleside.
+ The road forks at these traffic lights – take the left hand fork down the small hill and follow this road [A5095, Borrans Road].
+ When the road joins another road to become two lanes, stay in the left hand lane.
+ The road goes round to the left, then immediately to the right. After 100 metres, take the first left [onto Millans Park], then IMMEDIATELY LEFT AGAIN onto Vicarage Road.
+ The B&B is located on the right hand side –look for the sign.
Directions from M6 motorway [travelling from the North]
Note that for larger vehicles or those who are less confident drivers, we’re advise you to avoid this route. Simply continue to down the M6 until Junction 36 and follow the directions above.
+ Exit the M6 at Junction 40 [Penrith] and turn right at the roundabout [signed for Keswick, A66]
+ Continue up the dual carriageway to a small roundabout – take the second exit onto the A592 for Ullswater.
+ Continue on this road until you get to a T-Junction and turn right [staying on the A592]. This takes you on a wonderful drive down the edge of Ullswater.
+ Stay on this road through Watermillock, Glenridding and Patterdale and head up Kirkstone Pass [steep, narrow ascent].
+ Once you reach the top, you’ll see a pub on the right hand side – turn right, immediately after the car park onto ‘the struggle’. This is a minor road which goes down and up, and around and about. Drive very carefully and watch for cars coming the other way!
+ ‘the struggle’ brings you into Ambleside. Turn tight left when you get to the mini-roundabout at the bottom. This takes you into Ambleside – follow the one way system round a sharp right – drive past a pub on your left, then turn down Church Street [on your right hand side].
+ At the bottom turn right and merge with traffic from your left onto Compston Road
+ After 100 metres, take the first left [onto Millans Park], then IMMEDIATELY LEFT AGAIN onto Vicarage Road.
+ The B&B is located on the right hand side – look for the sign.
